It can feel weird to mix up the course
of the seasons. I saw Arne & Carlos' book 55 Christmas balls to knit in August, but I didn't want to start making Christmas
decorations too early... I have a short Autumn holiday right now, so
I thought it was a good time to finally get started!
The book contains 55 knitting patterns
for Christmas balls, based on traditional Scandinavian knitting
patterns. The combination of traditional craft and modern design is
wonderful, the photography and styling are lovely and the book is
written with a dry, understated sense of humor. If you want to get an
impression of what the book is like, watch their Youtube commercial
here.
I made my first ball in cotton, but
that type of yarn didn't really work, so I switched to a woolly type
of yarn instead. The color palette in this picture seems to clash
with my previous pictures and my general blog lay-out, but it's just
that, for Christmas, I like to stick to classic red, white, wood and
hearts :-) I've got 1,5 ball right now, so I'll definitely be knitting some more, to combine with the felt hearts I made last year!

So pretty, but they look tricky to make!
I hear so many good comments about the book. I heard it's quite an easy pattern to work with and the result is just lovely. I'm not really a knitter, but it makes my finger itch though!
Thanks! It's not difficult, but it's not for absolute beginners either. You have to know how to knit with 5 needles, how to knit with two strands of yarn, and how to increase and decrease. Those things are not explained in the book..
These are pretty! I've just learned how to knit recently after having lived all my life in a winter-less country. Hope I can work up to the skill level needed for something like this!
Perfect picture! (Co-student from BYW!)
Thanks :-)
so nice! you're very good!
Wow, this photo is fantastic!!! Great job!
These are great! Im making them too! I'm on my 17th ball at the moment :) and I'm knitting with the Heilo yarn, which is fabulous to the touch and works well with bamboo needles :)
